Abstract: After briefing the map classification, this essay lays out the present situation and features of abroad and analyses historically the mapping at home showing their comparative results. The prospection of development of thematic mapping is discussed and analysed from various points in detail, pointing out the criterion marks for the further development of thematic mapping, they are the marks showing the development from mapping of the present situation to dynamic mapping, then to prognostic and forecasting mapping; from resources distribution mapping to the comprehensive evaluation mapping, then to the programming and designing mapping. These marks are of a new trend.
