Separation of Rayleigh and Love seam waves

  • During in-seam seismic exploration, the seam wave record often comprises Rayleigh and Love seam waves simultaneously, and the characteristics of the polarization of these two seam waves are different. However, in most cases, the existing processing software system and methods were developed for only one of these two seam waves. Accordingly, the Rayleigh and Love seam waves interfere with each other in the subsequent processing such as dispersion analysis and imaging. On the basis of the fundamental polarization equation of the Rayleigh and Love seam waves, this paper proposed a direct separation method of these two seam waves. Compared to other methods, the direct method has the advantages of less artificial influence and more robust, and it was validated by analog and real dataset.
